A major fire broke out at an exhibition ground in which many shops and a Taj Mahal setting were gutted at Morampudi junction in the wee hours of Wednesday. The loss was estimated to around `40 lakh.
However, there was no human loss as the mishap occurred in the early hours and the cause for the fire is yet to be ascertained.
Fire tenders were immediately rushed to the spot to control the flames. Meanwhile, the locals of the area also tried to do their bit by pouring water on the small stalls.
A Srinivas of Rajahmundry was organising the exhibition from December 15. Just one day prior to the closure of the exhibition, the tragedy struck.
According to exhibition manager Pandu, the fire broke out between 2.30 am and 3 am.
The police registered a case and investigation is underway.
