It is now official that the new capital city of Andhra Pradesh will be named after the historic and religious capital of yesteryears- Amaravati .
AP Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu wanted to announced it during the Ugadi celebrations at Thullur itself, but due to election code, he put the announcement on hold.
The Chief Minister is likely to announce it in the Assembly during the current assembly session itself.
It is well known that the Andhra Pradesh government has so far collected 33,000 acres for the new capital at 29 villages of Mangalagiri, Thullur and Undavalli mandals. The Singapore government has offered to design while the Japanese builders will take up works of an estimated Rs. 27,000 crore in all, say official sources. So AP Capital name would be Amaravathi.
