The Roads and Buildings Department has taken up 191 works worth Rs 649 crore in East and West Godavari districts exclusively for Pushkarams, R&B Engineer-in-Chief M Gangadhar has said. All work related to Pushkarams would be completed by June and roads would be laid as per standards, he said.
Addressing a review meeting with engineers, contractors and officials here on Tuesday, Gangadhar said the department was taking up 81 works worth Rs 330 crore in East Godavari district and 110 works worth Rs 339 crore in West Godavari. In East Godavari district, tenders were called for 42 works. The remaining 28 works would also be given to contractors under the tender system, he said.
Major works in East Godavari district include Rajahmundry-Airport road, Bhimavaram-Narsapur road and Bheemadolu-Kamavarapukota road. The R&B Engineer-in-Chief said one lakh trucks of black gravel of 10 mm and 20 mm were required. The officials identified only 1.88 lakh cubic metres of metal near Katheru in East Godavari district and the remaining amount was to be procured from Pangidi, Paidipalem and Yeleswaram, he said.
East Godavari Superintending Engineer CSN Murthy was asked to speak to the contractors on procuring the gravel on a war-footing basis as the deadline for completion of Pushkaram works was only 90 days away.Executive Engineer T Satyanarayana, Divisional Engineer Naidu and others participated.
