VIJAYAWADA: If everything goes as planned, flights might be taking off from Vijayawada airport for destinations outside India in the next two to three months.
Though the airport runway of 7,200 ft does not allow large aircraft to land with full complement of passengers and luggage, they could, if the aircraft is semi-full and carries fewer baggage.
“I would make a presentation to Silk Air, Air Asia and Malindo Airlines at International Aviation Conference scheduled to be held at Visakhapatnam on Saturday to start operations from Vijayawada airport at least symbolically as Vijayawada is emerging as capital of Andhra Pradesh,” airport director G Madhusudana Rao said at an interaction with industrialists organised by the Vijayawada Chambers of Commerce and Industry Federation (APCCIF) here on Tuesday.
Madhusudana Rao said that the present airport terminal could act as an international terminal after the last domestic flight departs which would be in the evening. As international airlines operate late in the night, the present airport could be used by facilitating night landing facility.
