Since the Vizag central jail petrol bunk couldn’t materialise owing to a stay order from the High Court on the land they had asked for, the jail authorities are now planning to expand their steel factory inside the premises for employment generation of around 80 prisoners with target annual production worth around Rs 1.5 crore.
Besides engaging inmates in herbal plant cultivation and dairy farming, the jail authorities had been employing prisoners in income-generating works and other productive activities. The Vizag Central Jail at Krishnapuram, which is the second largest in the state after Rajahmundry Jail, currently houses 1,150 prisoners including 61 women inmates.
