Of the nine seats, the TDP can win eight without any difficulty. The lone seat in Kadapa is likely to go to YSRC whose nominee YS Vivekananda Reddy has already filed his nomination papers. Though B Tech Ravi’s name has already been announced by the TDP officially, it might become tough for him to turn the tables against YSRC war horse Vivekananda Reddy as Kadapa is considered as YSRC’s fiefdom.
In the neighbouring Kurnool district, the TDP appears to have more or less decided to renominate Silpa Chakrapani Reddy since he has been showing signs of leaving the party unable to digest the fact that his bete noire and Nandyal MLA Bhuma Nagireddy has not only been taken into the TDP from the YSRC but was also being given importance in party affairs. To keep Chakrapani in good humour, it is said that Naidu had decided to renominate him.
TDP has tough choices to make
In Anantapur district, JC family’s clout might help Tadipatri MLA JC Prabhakar Reddy’s son-in-law G Deepak Reddy walk into the Legislative Council. Chandrababu Naidu might ignore the pressure being brought on him that JC’s family should not be favoured beyond a point and that as Balijas are quite in number in the district, it would be in the fitness of things if one from this community is fielded.
In Chittoor, the party might nominate Dora Babu alias B Rajasimhulu who has been with the party for a very long time but it remains to be seen how the party would deal with Congress sitting MLC B Naresh Kumar Reddy who joined the TDP on the condition that he would be sent to the upper house. Apart from these two leaders, former minister and Guntur MP Galla Jayadev’s mother Galla Aruna too has thrown her hat in the ring.
In Nellore district, the fight is mainly between sitting MLA Vakati Narayana Reddy and Adala Prabhakara Reddy. Vakati has the support of Municipal Administration minister P Narayana though Prabhakar Reddy has been making hectic efforts to get party’s nod for his nomination.
In West Godavari, two seats are falling vacant of which one is expected to go for BC and the other for forward caste. For the BC seat, the party leadership might nominate sitting MLC Angara Ramamohana Rao though Tanuku Municipal chairman D Sudhakar is also trying for party support. For the other seat, the party is considering a woman leader Mullapudi Renuka, who belongs to Kamma community though Ambika Krishna from Vysya community and P Satyanarayana Raju from Kshatriya community are also seeking nomination.
Polling and cajoling
In East Godavari district, sitting MLC Boddu Bhaskara Rama Rao, who belongs to Kamma community, is trying hard for renomination. Interestingly Deputy Chief Minister Nimmakayala Chinarajappa, who is a Kapu leader, is backing Rama Rao’s candidature since it is learnt that he does not want him to come in competition to him in contesting from Peddapuram in the next Assembly election since Rama Rao also represented the same constituency in the Assembly in the past.
Apart from Rama Rao, Ganni Krishna, a Kamma leader from Rajamahendravaram has also set his eyes on the seat while Kapu leaders-former minister Chikkala Ramachandra Rao and Metla Ramanamurthy, son of former minister Metla Satyanarayana are also in the race. Ramanamurthy happens to be brother-in-law of Kakinada MP Thota Narasimham. If Chandrababu Naidu decides to send Lokesh to the council through local authority seat from East Godavari, if speculation to this effect is an indication, hopes of all these aspirants would go up in smoke.
