Members of Rajamahendravaram Bar Association (RBA) on Friday boycotted courts and burnt the effigy of Law Commission Chairman Balbir Singh Chowhan who proposed Advocates Act Amendment Bill, 2017.RBA president and AP State Bar Council member Muppalla Subba Rao who addressed the advocates and media said that with the introduction of bill, the clients can’t appoint their advocates on their choice. At the same time, advocates would not have freedom to argue cases freely if the Act becomes a Law, he added. He pointed out that the Act is going to be a threat to advocate’s profession and there would not be any protection.

Subba Rao said if the advocates take up any agitation or they are assaulted the proposed act will not protect them and more over if someone complaints against advocates, he has to pay up to Rs 7 lakh as compensation, which is highly deplorable.
He also pointed out that the proposed Act mentioned that agitations by advocates were completely barred and if it happens, advocates have to pay the compensation, which all the advocate unions in the country should condemn it.
