RMC to take up sanitation drive on a war-footing

Rajamahendravaram Municipal Council (RMC), which met here under the chairmanship of Mayor Pantam Rajani Sesha Sai, has decided to take up sanitation drive on a war-footing as cases of seasonal diseases are on the rise in the city. The corporation at an emergency meeting on Saturday discussed only on sanitation.

When the meeting began in the morning, YSRC floor leader M. Sharmila Reddy brought to the notice of the council about the sanitation in the city and said that the corporation failed to tackle the menace of pigs, dogs and cattle and fogging was being done only in 20% areas in the city. She alleged supply of contaminated drinking water through pipes and people suffer from seasonal diseases because of it. She persistently asked about postponing of standing committee meetings.

Akula Satyanarayana, BJP MLA, said that during the Godavari Pushkarams, the sanitation was good and later it turns bad in the city. Somu Veerraju, MLC, said that though the sanitary staff was more in the city than Vijayawada, the sanitation was not up to the mark. He also said that dumper bins, tractors and phenyl supply should be checked by the Commissioner as there were allegations about their misuse. At this stage Commissioner V. Vijayaramaraju tried to answer all the questions, but the opposition YSRC members did not allow him forcing the Mayor to adjourn the meeting. But, YSRC members staged a dharna in front of the podium. Later, Mayor suspended opposition members.
