With the recent launch of the pilot project of Core System Integrator (CSI) in Visakhapatnam division, the Department of Posts has been facing technical hitches for the past couple of days.
Ever since the CSI rollout in the division on October 6, the shift from the old system is moving at a snail’s pace and this has slowed down certain transactions at some of the post offices across the city.
Though the staff members have been trained in operating new version of the software, sources from the department ascertained that due to overloading of transactions and network challenges, the processing has slowed down for long hours and some of the transactions came to a halt.
Officials from the Senior Superintendent of Post Offices, Visakhapatnam told The Hindu that keeping the holidays in view, the disbursement of pensions was made much before the rollout of the CSI.
“We faced problems in updating the balance amount of the account holders’ savings accounts and data migration to CSI portal along with other issues. Hence manual transactions were made to meet the rising demands initially. However, the technical glitch has now been streamlined and it’s business as usual since Monday,” said an official from the postal department.
The online single-window system would aid in catering to multiple services at the department.
According to the department officials, the next phase of the CSI project will take off in Srikakulam, Rajamahendravaram and Kakinada.
