The Municipal Corporation of Rajamahendravaram (MCR) is going to take up construction of a multi-purpose indoor stadium, swimming pool and an auditorium soon as it received Rs. 350 crore funds under different schemes for the development of the city. Addressing the media here on Monday, Mayor Pantham Rajani Sesha Sai said that the Central funds under `Amruth’, ‘Hriday’, SC, ST Sub-Plan and the 14 Finance Commission would be spent on different projects before the end of 2019.
She said the three facilities would be constructed with Rs. 18 crore sanctioned by the Sports Authority of India (SAAP) and an additional Rs. 2 crore would be spent on laying new tracks and temporary gallery in the existing municipal stadium.
Solar plants would be arranged with Rs. 38 lakh on the top of the MCR old building and new building. Works to improve greenery along the airport road were taken up with Rs. 2 crore.
Water supply and street lighting were also improved in the city.
She said GAIL had given Rs. 69.90 lakh under CSR to construct toilets and kitchen sheds in all MCR schools.
