Expressing their resentment with the Central and the State governments for their nonchalant attitude in according Special Category Status to Andhra Pradesh, activists from the Communist Party of India (CPI) and the CPI (M) staged a rasta roko near the APSRTC bus station here on Monday.
Secretary of the CPI’s district unit Tatipaka Madhu and secretariat committee member of the CPI (M) Duvva Seshu Babji led the agitation, where an argument took place between the activists and the police over burning the Central government’s effigy.
The activists withdrew their proposal, but raised slogans against the Centre and the State.
Mr. Madhu wondered why Telugu Desam Party (TDP) was giving importance to political mileage rather than protecting the interests of the State. He held the TDP responsible for the current situation and expressed solidarity with a bandh call given by the YSR Congress Party for July 24.
Mr. Madhu said that a CPI State conference would be held in Rajamahendravaram for two days from August 11, in which a detailed discussion on the strategy for the ensuing general elections would take place.
