Swirling flood waters wash away two in AP, 17 rescued

VIJAYAWADA/RAJAHMUNDRY: Two persons got washed away while 17 others were rescued from swirling flood waters in Prakasam and West Godavari districts on Saturday, as heavy rains lashed many parts of the state, affecting road connectivity.
Tragedy struck at Ambadipudi village under Ballikurava mandal in Prakasam district when a class 6 student met a watery grave. He was washed away by the flood water while crossing a rivulet.
Ballikurava police said two students were crossing the road where the rivulet was overflowing when strong water current dragged them into the stream. While locals managed to save one of them, the other student, identified as Shravan Kumar, drowned. His body was later found some distance away.
In a separate incident, a person drowned as the car he was travelling in was washed away in a stream in West Godavari district.
Locals managed to rescue the other three persons in the car. The body of the missing person was later fished out and sent to Jangareddygudem government hospital for post-mortem.
