VIJAYAWADA: Since May 31, petrol prices have hit new highs across various cities in Andhra Pradesh. In Guntur, the price of one litre of petrol stands at Rs 100.89, according to Indian Oil Corporation. The diesel price which was raised by 28 paise stood at Rs 95.19 in the district. Vijayawada‘s petrol price touched Rs 100.73 per litre on Friday with diesel costing Rs 95.19.
Visakhapatnam happens to be the only city where the petrol price is less than Rs 100 and stands at Rs 99.9 per litre. Diesel stands less 94.23 per litre in the city. With Rs 101.64, Tirupati happens to have the highest petrol price in the state. Coincidentally, it also stands as the first city in AP to cross the century mark for petrol on May 28. The diesel price too stands highest in AP at Rs 95.83 per litre in Tirupati.
Rajahmundry too saw petrol price rise to Rs 100.23 per litre on Friday with diesel remaining at Rs 94.56 per litre. As of now for Petrol, the state government charges 31 percent VAT + Rs 4 per litre VAT + Rs 1 per litre Road Development Cess and Vat thereon. For diesel, 22.25 percent VAT + Rs 4 per litre VAT + Rs 1 per litre Road Development Cess and Vat thereon is charged. Overall, both state and central taxes make up for 60 per cent of the present retail price.
