In yet another case of social stigma taking a toll, wife and two children of a man who died of coronavirus ended their lives by jumping off a bridge in Andhra Pradesh’s Rajahmundry area.
The incident was reported on Wednesday.
The three jumped off the bridge into the Godavari river.
According to police, after the death of family 52-year-old Narasaiah, who was infected with coronavirus four days ago, his family was depressed and felt humiliated when their relatives and friends did not give them solace after their loss.
Parimi Snuneetha (50), son of Narasaiah Phanikumar (25), and daughter Lakshmi Aparna (23) on Wednesday jumped off the bridge and ended their life, police said.
Police recovered a suicide note from the car on which the three had come to the bridge. The note said that the family was a victim of the social stigma surrounding the virus and decided to kill themselves.
Police is trying to recover the bodies from the river.
